In this post, I am listing the Best Books for the Preparation of Gate Exam in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The Detailed Syllabus and the specialty of each textbook are explained. You can buy or download some of the books.
GATE 2020 Syllabus for Electrical Engineering (EE)
GATE 2020 Syllabus for Electrical Engineering (EE)
Engineering Mathematics, Electric Circuits, Electromagnetic Fields, Signals and Systems, Electrical Machines, Power Systems, Control Systems, Electrical and Electronics Measurements, Analog and Digital Electronics, and Power Electronics
1. Best book for Engineering Mathematics in Gate 2020
The Best book I will recommend is Engineering Mathematics by MadeEasy publications.
Check the Book HERE. to know the Price Details, Click HERE
2. Best book for Power Systems Gate 2020 Electrical Engineering
Elements of Power System Analysis
- Stevenson – covers transmission(only line parameters and performance), load flow, faults, stability
check the Book and Price details HERE
2. Nagrath and Kothari – Power System Engineering
check the Book and Price details HERE
covers all topics required for GATE. Take care to buy the book titled โPower system Engineeringโ as it covers all topics including protection. The book titled โmodern power system analysisโ doesnโt include protection.
3. C.L Wadhwa – covers all topics required for Gate
check the Book and Price details HERE
For transmission, all three books are good. For load flow, faults and stability Stevenson and Kothari are good. For protection Wadhwa is preferable(not ideal though).
3. Best books for Control systems Gate 2020 Electrical Engineering
- B.C.Kuo
- Nagrath and Gopal
- Ogata
B.C Kuo is a standard book that is easy to read and grasp concepts in case of self-study. Nagrath and Gopal is a must since as it covers all syllabus according to the Indian curriculum and is also preferable for Gate. Ogata is the best book of the three but is not preferable for undergraduates
4. Best book for Electrical Machines Gate 2020 Electrical Engineering
- Chapman- Fundamentals Machines: Check the Details HERE and Price HERE
- Nagrath and Kothari -Check the Details HERE
- P.S.Bhimbra – Not preferable check HERE
Chapman is a good book for self study as well as for beginners. It explains concepts in a very simple and concise manner. After getting a grip on concepts, some topics which are not covered in Chapman should be read from Nagrath Kothari. PS Bhimbra is the most popular book of machines but in my experience, it has never helped build my concepts nor was it easy to read. The only advantage it has over the other two books is that it has a lot of solved examples.
But even for that I would recommend R.K Rajput. Check HERE
5. Best book for signals and Systems Gate 2020 Electrical Engineering
- Oppenheim Check Price Details HERE
it is the best book for signals and systems. But without the guidance of a good teacher, it is impossible to read from it. So, in order to truly appreciate Oppenheim, you can first start with books like Simon Haykin( check here) , Anand Kumar( check here) and other popular Indian author books.
